Not So Deep Thoughts: Treasure the good, it's rare these days
Posted by Tuff Stuff

Took a quick break from my editorial duties to do some Internet surfing to see if I could find something uplifting or generally positive to combat all of the negative stories floating around. Swing and a miss.

I lowered my standards and loosened up the criteria and gave it another shot, but all I found was more A-Rod steroid talk, a bitter Brett Favre recalling that he basically only came back last year to spite the Packers and news that the Falcons were planning on trading Michael Vick.

Then I stumbled onto the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class of 2009 which features Michael Jordan, John Stockton, David Robinson, Don Nelson, Jerry Sloan, Rutgers women's coach Vivian Stringer, WBNA star Cynthia Cooper, Dennis Johnson, Chris Mullen and Bernard King. Talk about a class with class and star power. The members of this list have done an outstanding job of being in the news for all the right reasons and it's nice to see them being rewarded for both their efforts on the field of play and not be tainted by their actions off of it.

Enjoy these type of stories when they come around people, they are few and far between these days. Hopefully in the not-to-distant future we can get back to focussing on the player's achievements and get away from all of the negativity that surrounds their lives off of it. Here's hoping it gets a little easier to find a positive sports story in the future, I'll keep looking until I find some.
